Advice - Spa Care Guide
- Filter elements for domestic spas should be cleaned every 2-3 weeks to ensure proper water circulation and jet action.
Method: Soak filter elements for 8-12 hours in Filter Brite, then rinse off with hose. - To ensure clean and healthy water, the spa water must fall within the proper water balance and sanitiser ranges. Spa water should be tested at least three times a week using the simple test strip included in the Spa Starter Kit.
Water Balance - An essential part of water treatment is maintaining proper water balance i.e. total alkalinity and pH. Dip the test strip in the water and compare the total alkalinity and pH colour patches with the test strip bottle.
Correct alkalinity range - 80 - 150 ppm
Correct pH range - 7.2 - 7.8Also ensure minimum calcium hardness level of 100 ppm.
Sanitiser - Compare the end pad on the test strip with the colour on the bottle.
Correct sanitiser range - Chlorine - 1 - 3 ppm
Bromine - 3 - 6
Note: The total alkalinity and pH of spa water tends to decrease with use.
Treatment - Raise total alkalinity into the 80 - 150 ppm range using Spa Guard Balance Pak 100. If pH is not between 7.2 - 7.8:
To increase - add pH increaser
To decrease - add pH decreaser
Sanitising - All Catalina Spas are fitted with ozonators which do reduce the need to add high levels of sanitiser, however depending on use, it will be necessary to add chlorine (Chlorine Concentrate) in order to maintain a chlorine level of 1 - 3 ppm.
During normal use, body oils lotions and other organic contaminants can enter the water. To destroy these impurities, it is critical to 'shock' the water weekly. After a sustained session, add one sachet of Spa Lite with the pump running. Wait at least half an hour before re-entering the spa.
Change of water - In domestic spas - depending on use - it is necessary to drain and re-fill the spa every 60 days.
